The Torch Passes On. Thank you AIESEC McMaster
Hey AIESEC!
The AIESEC year is an odd one, its a year that ends Feb 28th. Feb 28th has always been the day we turn the page, an end of a chapter but never the end of the book. I was privileged with the opportunity to contribute in writing three chapters in the book called AIESEC McMaster. Over those three years in Mac I have met some very inspiring people, developed great life long friendships and worked with a talented group of individual to reshape the realty of this LC while developing my skills and impacting peoples lives. For that and many other things I am very thankful to every member of the local since September 2002.
I wanted my last email to include some thought and a piece of advice upon the future of the local. Although we have been growing at relatively high rates we are no where close to fulfilling our potential. I believe there are two roads to continue changing our reality; the first is for us as members of AIESEC to have ownership over our own personal development and over the growth of our organization. Because we all joined AIESEC for a reason and we all stayed for another, but now we need to work together as a team to achieve our goals that we want to accomplish through AIESEC.
Second, it is very hard to hold individuals accountable in a volunteer setting. The only way this will happen if we hold ourselves accountable and therefore no one needs to hold us. We have to remember that people not only expect us to deliver on our commitments but also plan and build on our results and accomplishments.
One of my favorite AIESEC Values just sums up all I wanna say. The value is Activating Leadership. It reads: We lead by example and inspire leadership through actions and results. We take full responsibility for our role in developing the potential of people. Live this value and not only you will change AIESEC Mac and AIESEC Canada, you will change the world.
Now I am sure that by now you are thinking that I am writing this email to all the hardcore AIESECers. But, I am not. I am writing it to each and every member of AIESEC, new or old. We all have a role and responsibility in making this organization grow.
Owen, Jenn, Kimble, Nima, Lukas, and Karl Best of luck on your term I am confident in your knowledge, skills, attitude and in your ability to lead this AIESEC Mac to unprecedented heights.
Finally, I want to thank the 04/05 exec team: Jezdrej, Jenn, Lukas and Owen, for a job well done. I thank you for the friendship and for stepping up to the plate and developing yourselves while impacting the lives of others.
AIESEC Mac, Thank you for the best years of my life. I hope you do stay in touch, I know I will.
Your proud former LCP,
Assem
