Bookstores: A love, Hate Relationship!
Well the place I hate and love the most is the bookstore! The reason I love it, many new or used books about topics I like to read about (mainly international politics, postwar history, autobiographies, a little bit of philosophy and of course some political satire). The reason I hate it and avoid it is that I end up buying to many books. I dont like borrowing books, I like to own books to build my library and use as a reference in the future. Ofcourse they make me look smart when they are stacked on shelves in my room :P.
Well on Saturday I ended up somehow at Chapters. From hoping to buy none to ending up wanting to buy like 10 and ended up buying 5 books! I wonder if my study time will end up reading non academic books. Of the 5 I bought there are two I am very interested in starting up on ASAP.
The first is "A History of God" by Karen Armstrong, the book is about the evolution of God, or the concept of God, since Adam and Eve. I hope she will present and analyze the evolution of God in parallel with the development of society.
The second, is a compilations of essays, the book is called "The Simpsons and Philosophy". It includes comparisons and linkage between Homer & Aristotle and Bart & Nietzsche. It should be an interesting read which will link to my Pop Culture class.
On a personal note, I learned this past week that I am not a big fan of humanities, especially cultural, music, peace and war studies. All the profs (atleast my profs) do in class is bitch bitch bitch and bitch! GET A LIFE, DO SOMETHING INSTEAD OF BITCHING, OR JUST STOP BITCHING!
Chef!
